How it works

  1. Cast Temporal Manipulation by paying its mana cost, causing you to take an extra turn after this one.
  2. Cast Ephemerate by paying W mana, blinking Skullwinder and exiling Ephemerate.
  3. When Skullwinder enters, it triggers, returning Temporal Manipulation from your graveyard to your hand.
  4. Move to your next turn. At the beginning of your upkeep, Ephemerate's rebound ability triggers, causing you to cast it from exile without paying its mana cost.
  5. Resolve Ephemerate, blinking Skullwinder.
  6. When Skullwinder enters, it triggers, returning Ephemerate from your graveyard to your hand.
  7. Repeat.

This ingenious loop locks down the game by recycling your resources indefinitely, legal in formats like commander, legacy, oathbreaker, and vintage. By casting Temporal Manipulation, you secure the extra time needed to set up your engine, while Ephemerate provides the repeatable flicker effect that drives the whole mechanism. The secret catalyst is Skullwinder, whose entry trigger lets you continuously pull Temporal Manipulation and Ephemerate back from the graveyard to your hand, fueled further by Ephemerate's rebound ability during your upkeep.
