How it works

1. Cast Clone Legion by paying 7, causing you to create a token copy of Hidetsugu and Kairi and Skullwinder.
2. Put the token Hidetsugu and Kairi into your graveyard due to the legend rule.
3. The Hidetsugu and Kairi token's first and second abilities trigger, as well as Skullwinder.
4. Resolve the Skullwinder trigger, returning Clone Legion from your graveyard to your hand and causing an opponent to return a card from their graveyard to their hand.
5. Resolve the first Hidetsugu and Kairi trigger, causing you to draw three cards and then put Clone Legion and another card on top of your library, ensuring Clone Legion is on top.
6. Resolve the second Hidetsugu and Kairi trigger, exiling Clone Legion from the top of your library, then causing an opponent to lose 9 life and allowing you to cast Clone Legion from exile without paying its mana cost.
7. Resolve Clone Legion, causing you to create a token copy of Hidetsugu and Kairi and Skullwinder.
8. Repeat from step 2.

This clever loop kicks off when you cast Clone Legion to flood the board with token copies of both Hidetsugu and Kairi and Skullwinder, immediately sacrificing the duplicate legend to the state-based legend rule. As the resulting death triggers and enters-the-battlefield abilities stack up, Skullwinder quietly does the heavy lifting of recycling Clone Legion right back to your hand. Meanwhile, the original Hidetsugu and Kairi's trigger lets you sculpt your draws so that Clone Legion sits squarely on top of your library. When the token's death trigger resolves, it exiles that very same Clone Legion, drains your opponent for a hefty 9 life, and lets you cast it for free to start the whole recursion over again.
