How it works

1. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Ambitious Aetherborn.
2. When Ambitious Aetherborn dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Ambitious Aetherborn enters, its fabricate ability triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
4. Resolve the Shilgengar ability.
5. Repeat.

This looping machinery turns Shilgengar, Sire of Famine into a relentless engine by leveraging the passive twilight side of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight to grant persistent immortality to your squad. When you sacrifice Ambitious Aetherborn to Shilgengar's activated ability, its persist ability brings it right back with a -1/-1 counter, which is immediately neutralized and canceled out by the +1/+1 counter placed upon it by its own fabricate ability. This clever counter-cancellation resets the Ambitious Aetherborn so it can be sacrificed over and over again, fueling Shilgengar's hunger to churn out an endless stream of Blood tokens.
