How it works

1. Cast Volcano Hellion by paying 2.
2. When Volcano Hellion enters the battlefield, it triggers, dealing an arbitrarily large amount of damage to you and Volcano Hellion.
3. Instead of you losing the game as a state-based action, Lich's Mirror causes you to shuffle your hand, graveyard and all permanents you own into your library, causing Rhox Faithmender to return to the battlefield as Battle at the Helvault leaves the battlefield, and causing you to gain life equal to twice the amount of damage dealt to you plus 40.

When Volcano Hellion enters the battlefield, its triggered ability deals massive, arbitrarily large damage to both you and itself—damage that happily cannot be prevented. Normally, this would spell certain defeat, but Lich's Mirror steps in as a safety net, replacing your loss by shuffling your hand, graveyard, and all permanents you own into your library, resetting your life total to 20, and drawing you a fresh hand of seven cards. As all your permanents leave the battlefield, Battle at the Helvault finally departs, triggering its third lore chapter to return Rhox Faithmender to play just in time for the sequence to loop, where its replacement effect doubles your incoming life gain exponentially to flood you with infinite life.
