How it works

1. Activate Grim Poppet by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Altered Ego.
2. Flourishing Defenses triggers, creating a creature token.
3. Activate Altered Ego by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Grim Poppet.
4. Flourishing Defenses triggers, creating a creature token.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop turns the natural push-and-pull of -1/-1 counters into an endless parade of Elf Warriors. With Flourishing Defenses watching the board to reward every counter placement with a token, Grim Poppet and Altered Ego can bounce counters back and forth between each other indefinitely. Because Altered Ego enters as a copy of Grim Poppet (with the aid of its own X additional +1/+1 counters offsetting the trouble), both creatures are equipped to peel off a counter and dump it right back onto the other.
