How it works

1. Activate Grim Poppet by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Vesuvan Shapeshifter.
2. Flourishing Defenses triggers, creating a creature token.
3. Activate Vesuvan Shapeshifter by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Grim Poppet.
4. Flourishing Defenses triggers, creating a creature token.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop relies on a clever bit of identity-swapping to trade counters back and forth indefinitely. By having Vesuvan Shapeshifter copy Grim Poppet, you essentially create a second copy of the Poppet that can also strip away and redistribute -1/-1 counters. Every time you pull a counter off either creature to place one on the other, Flourishing Defenses watches the -1/-1 counter get placed and rewards your tinkering by generating a fresh 1/1 green Elf Warrior creature token.
