How it works

1. Activate Grim Poppet by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Chameleon.
2. Flourishing Defenses triggers, creating a creature token.
3. Activate Chameleon by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Grim Poppet.
4. Flourishing Defenses triggers, creating a creature token.
5. Repeat.

This ingenious loop relies on a clever bit of identity-shifting, with Chameleon, Master of Disguise entering the battlefield as a copy of Grim Poppet to unlock the engine. Once mirrored, Grim Poppet and your newly copied Chameleon can endlessly ping one another back and forth by stripping and redistributing -1/-1 counters between themselves. Each time a counter is placed, Flourishing Defenses watches the action happen and triggers to churn out an endless swarm of Elf Warrior tokens.
