How it works

  1. Cast Yawgmoth by paying 2B manaB mana.
  2. When Yawgmoth enters the battlefield, Scurry Oak's evolve ability triggers.
  3. Holding priority, activate Yawgmoth by paying 1 life and sacrificing a creature, putting a -1/-1 counter on Scurry Oak and causing you to draw a card.
  4. Resolve the Scurry Oak trigger, putting a +1/+1 counter on it, triggering Scurry Oak's second ability.
  5. Holding priority, activate Yawgmoth by paying 1 life and sacrificing a creature, putting a -1/-1 counter on Scurry Oak and causing you to draw a card.
  6. Resolve the Scurry Oak trigger, creating a 1/1 Squirrel creature token.
  7. When the Squirrel enters the battlefield, Anointer Priest and Scurry Oak's evolve ability trigger.
  8. Resolve the Anointer Priest trigger, causing you to gain 1 life.
  9. Repeat from step 4.

This ingenious engine turns a delicate balance of counters into a self-sustaining loop, fueled entirely by the interplay between Yawgmoth, Thran Physician and Scurry Oak. By using Yawgmoth's ability to sacrifice a creature and place a -1/-1 counter on Scurry Oak, you shrink its power and toughness just enough to continuously trigger its evolve ability and subsequent token generation when the counters interact. Meanwhile, Anointer Priest sits quietly on the battlefield turning every single newly birthed creature token into a neat little life-buffer, offsetting the life payment required to keep Yawgmoth's sacrifice engine firing infinitely.
