How it works

1. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Woodfall Primus.
2. When Woodfall Primus dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Thran Vigil and Woodfall Primus trigger.
4. Resolve the Thran Vigil trigger, putting a +1/+1 counter on Woodfall Primus.
5. Resolve the Woodfall Primus trigger, destroying target noncreature permanent.
6. Resolve the Shilgengar ability
7. Repeat.

This ruthless loop lets you systematically dismantle the entire board using Woodfall Primus, whose enter-the-battlefield trigger destroys any noncreature permanent whenever it returns. The engine is fueled by Shilgengar, Sire of Famine, which happily converts your sacrifices into Blood tokens while sending the Primus to the graveyard to set up its persist ability. Because the Primus leaves the graveyard in the process, Thran Vigil cleverly steps in to place a +1/+1 counter on it, which immediately cancels out the -1/-1 counter from persist via state-based actions and keeps the cycle ready to repeat indefinitely.
