How it works

1. Activate Pentavus's first ability by paying 1 and removing a +1/+1 counter from it, creating a 1/1 Pentavite artifact creature token.
2. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing the Pentavite, adding 1.
3. When the Pentavite dies, Death's Presence triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Pentavus.
4. Repeat.

This clever looping mechanism relies on Pentavus acting as both the resource and the engine, continually shedding and regaining its own stats through its self-contained counter abilities. By sacrificing the token you just created to Phyrexian Altar, you generate the exact mana needed to fuel the cycle while triggering Death's Presence to funnel the dead token's power right back into Pentavus as a fresh +1/+1 counter. Because Death's Presence scales with the dying creature's power, it ensures Pentavus never runs out of fuel, safely looping its counters indefinitely for an endless stream of sacrifice, enter-the-battlefield, and death triggers.
