How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Furystoke Giant
2. When Furystoke Giant dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Furystoke Giant enters, Stalwart Successor triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Furystoke Giant
4. Repeat.

This clever loop turns Furystoke Giant into an infinite engine by exploiting the interaction between its own native return ability and a watchful ally. Each time Furystoke Giant enters the battlefield, the static and triggered abilities of Stalwart Successor step in to neutralize its recurring drawback by immediately placing a +1/+1 counter on it, effectively resetting its persist ability so it can enter again and again. You then feed this cycle directly into Ashnod's Altar, sacrificing the Giant for a steady stream of colorless mana while generating an unending chain of entries, leaves, and deaths.
