How it works

1. Activate Altar of Dementia by sacrificing Furystoke Giant.
2. When Furystoke Giant dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Thran Vigil triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Furystoke Giant.
4. Resolve the Altar of Dementia ability.
5. Repeat.

This loop relies on the clever interplay between Altar of Dementia and Furystoke Giant's persist ability, which lets the giant repeatedly sacrifice itself and return to the battlefield. Because persist brings the creature back with a -1/-1 counter, Thran Vigil plays a crucial role by watching for the giant to leave the graveyard and neutralizing that drawback with a +1/+1 counter. These counters effectively cancel each other out through state-based actions, resetting the giant so it can persist endlessly and fuel an infinite mill machine.
