How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Highspire Artisan.
2. When Highspire Artisan dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Highspire Artisan enters, its fabricate ability triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
4. Repeat.

This ingenious loop relies on Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn granting persist to Highspire Artisan, allowing the artisan to return from the graveyard with a -1/-1 counter whenever Ashnod's Altar converts it into a pair of colorless mana. Because Highspire Artisan also features fabricate 1, its entry into the battlefield lets you place a +1/+1 counter that immediately neutralizes the existing -1/-1 counter through state-based actions. This resets the artisan's persist ability for the next sacrifice, and the mana generated along the way can even help fund additional creature spells thanks to the convoke ability granted by Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn.
