How it works

1. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Highspire Artisan.
2. When Highspire Artisan dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Highspire Artisan enters, its fabricate ability triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
4. Repeat.

This clever loop revolves around the dual-faced nature of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight, whose reverse side grants your nontoken creatures persist to keep the cycle going. When you feed Highspire Artisan to Phyrexian Altar, its persist ability brings it right back from the graveyard with a -1/-1 counter, but its fabricate ability immediately counters that penalty by placing a +1/+1 counter on it to neutralize the damage. Because state-based actions wipe away matching +1/+1 and -1/+1 counters, Highspire Artisan is left completely clean and ready to be sacrificed all over again for infinite colored mana.
