How it works

1. During your precombat main phase, activate Necrotic Ooze using Stern Marshal's ability by tapping it, giving it +2/+2 until end of turn.
2. Activate Necrotic Ooze using Cinderhaze Wretch's second ability by putting a -1/-1 counter on it, untapping it.
3. Repeat.

By having Necrotic Ooze inherit the abilities of both Stern Marshal and Cinderhaze Wretch in your graveyard, the Ooze becomes a self-contained engine capable of fueling its own untap loop. You tap the Ooze to pump its power and toughness with Stern Marshal's granted ability, and then you use Cinderhaze Wretch's self-untap ability—which costs you a -1/-1 counter—to ready the Ooze for another activation. Because Stern Marshal's pump temporarily offsets the -1/-1 counter's toll, you can repeat this process as many times as you like to grow the Ooze into an infinitely large creature until end of turn.
