How it works

  1. If Runaway Steam-Kin has three or more +1/+1 counters on it, activate it by removing three +1/+1 counters from it, adding R manaR manaR mana.
  2. Cast Spear Spewer by paying R mana.
  3. Runaway Steam-Kin triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
  4. Activate Spear Spewer by tapping it, dealing 1 damage to each player.
  5. Dissipation Field triggers, returning Spear Spewer from the battlefield to your hand.
  6. Repeat.

This clever loop begins with Runaway Steam-Kin prepped with at least three +1/+1 counters so you can crack them for a burst of red mana. You use that mana to cast Spear Spewer, which conveniently triggers Runaway Steam-Kin to restock its counters while also dealing damage to you. Because Dissipation Field sends any permanent that damages you straight back to its owner's hand, your Spear Spewer returns to your grip, ready to be recast over and over. Though Dragonlord Kolaghan doesn't actively cast a spell in this exact loop, its presence ensures you have the right colors or constraints depending on the broader strategy, while the rest of the engine continuously fires off near-infinite storm count, damage, and triggers.
