How it works

  1. Declare Excava and the creature with Breath of Fury attached as attackers.
  2. Excava triggers, returning up to one creature with mana value 3 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield. It won't enter with a finality counter on it due to Solemnity.
  3. Deal combat damage using the creature that has Breath of Fury attached.
  4. Breath of Fury triggers, causing you to sacrifice the creature it is attached to, then attach Breath of Fury to another creature with mana value 3 or less, then causing you to untap all creatures you control and to get an additional combat phase after this one.
  5. Repeat each combat phase.

This brilliant loop hinges on the elegant protection of Solemnity, which prevents finality counters from ever being placed on the permanents Excava, the Risen Past resurrects from your graveyard. Because Excava brings those low-mana threats back repeatedly with every attack while bypassing their usual exile downside, you have a continuous stream of fresh bodies to fuel Breath of Fury. When the creature enchanted by Breath of Fury deals combat damage, you sacrifice it to untap your team and chain into an additional combat phase, moving the Aura to a newly recurred creature so the assault can begin anew. Meanwhile, Dragonlord Kolaghan stands ready in the command zone or your 99 to grant haste across your board, ensuring every resurrected piece immediately joins the fray to sustain this infinite combat engine.
