How it works

1. Activate Tree of Perdition, exchanging target opponent's life total with Tree of Perdition's toughness.
2. Cast Into the Maw of Hell for 4, destroying target land and dealing thirteen damage to Truefire Captain.
3. Truefire Captain triggers, dealing 20 damage to target opponent.

This clever brew sets up a devastating one-shot kill by weaponizing Truefire Captain's damage-reflection trigger against an opponent whose life total has been heavily compromised. First, you tap Tree of Perdition to swap an opponent's life total with its current toughness, dropping them down to a fragile 13 life. Then, you point Into the Maw of Hell at your own Truefire Captain—dealing a massive 13 damage to it to satisfy the spell's secondary effect while destroying a land. That overkill damage immediately awakens Truefire Captain's passive ability, causing it to fire a lethal 20 damage straight at your already-weakened opponent's face to close out the game.
