Branching Evolution

How it works

1. Activate Marath by paying 1 and removing a +1/+1 counter from it, putting two +1/+1 counters on Marath.
2. Activate Marath by paying 1 and removing a +1/+1 counter from it, creating a 1/1 Elemental creature token.
3. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing the Elemental, adding CC.
4. Repeat.

This elegant loop is fueled by Marath, Will of the Wild's flexible counter-removal ability, which normally breaks even or costs mana, but breaks wide open thanks to Branching Evolution. Because Branching Evolution doubles any counters placed on your creatures, spending a single counter to add +1/+1 counters to Marath actually nets you an extra counter every time. You can then siphon off those generated resources by using Marath, Will of the Wild to create a token instead, which you immediately feed into Ashnod's Altar to generate the colorless mana needed to keep the cycle spinning. The result is a self-sustaining engine that yields infinite creature tokens, sacrifice triggers, and death triggers right from your command zone.
