How it works

1. Activate Marath by paying 1 and removing a +1/+1 counter from it, creating a 1/1 Elemental creature token.
2. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing the Elemental, adding 1.
3. When the Elemental dies, Death's Presence triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Marath.
4. Repeat.

This delightful synergy transforms Marath, Will of the Wild into a self-sustaining engine by utilizing its own ability to fund the creation of fodder. You pay one mana and remove a counter from Marath to create an Elemental token, which you then sacrifice to Phyrexian Altar to recoup that exact mana. The real magic happens when Death's Presence watches that token die, channeling its power straight back into Marath as a brand-new +1/+1 counter to replace the one you spent. This creates an endless loop of sacrifices and counter replenishment, easily producing infinite death triggers, enters-the-battlefield effects, and mana.
