How it works

1. Cast Sin either from your hand or command zone by paying 5 plus commander tax if applicable.
2. As Sin enters, remove all counters from all artifacts, enchantments and creatures you control, putting twice that many +1/+1 counters on Sin.
3. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Sin, adding CC.
4. Choose to return Sin to the command zone from your graveyard.
5. When Sin dies, it and Heronblade Elite trigger.
6. Resolve the Sin trigger, putting its counters on Heronblade Elite.
7. Resolve the Heronblade Elite trigger, untapping it.
8. Activate Heronblade Elite by tapping it, adding an amount of or equal to its power.
9. Repeat.

This clever loop centers on the massive stat-buffing ability of Sin, Unending Cataclysm, which enters the battlefield to absorb counters from your own permanents and doubles them into a towering pile of +1/+1 counters. When you feed Sin to Ashnod's Altar, its death trigger dumps all those accumulated counters onto Heronblade Elite, whose power immediately balloons to astronomical heights. Tapping Heronblade Elite then floods your pool with an overwhelming surge of colored mana, while Thornbite Staff stands ready as the linchpin that untaps your mana producer whenever a creature perishes. By recasting Sin, Unending Cataclysm and repeating the sacrifice, you continuously feed the engine to generate infinite mana, enter-the-battlefield effects, and a perpetually growing creature.
