How it works
- Activate Mindless Automaton's first ability by paying 1 and discarding a card, putting two +1/+1 counters on it.
- Activate Mindless Automaton's second ability by removing two +1/+1 counters from it, causing you to draw a card.
- The Locust God triggers, creating a 1/1 Insect creature token with flying and haste.
- Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing an Insect, adding CC.
- Repeat.
This clever loop relies on Shang-Chi, Martial Mentor to supercharge Mindless Automaton, doubling the +1/+1 counters it receives so that its self-pumping ability yields enough raw material to constantly draw cards. Each time you cash in those counters for a card, The Locust God triggers to fill your board with a swarm of flying, hasty Insect tokens. You can then feed those newly minted tokens straight into Ashnod's Altar to generate the colorless mana needed to fuel Mindless Automaton's cycle all over again.
