How it works

1. Cast Ugin's Nexus by paying 5.
2. At the beginning of your end step, Toph triggers, causing Ugin's Nexus to become an artifact land creature.
3. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Ugin's Nexus, adding . Ugin's Nexus is exiled instead of being put into your graveyard, causing you to take an extra turn after this one.
4. Toph triggers, returning Ugin's Nexus from exile to the battlefield.
5. Activate Meticulous Excavation by paying 2, returning Ugin's Nexus from the battlefield to your hand.
6. Repeat each turn.

This ingenious loop hinges on Toph, the First Metalbender transforming your non-token artifacts into lands, which makes Ugin's Nexus an artifact land alongside its usual type. Because Toph’s earthbend ability targets a land at your end step, you can animate Ugin's Nexus into a creature, allowing you to sacrifice it to Phyrexian Altar for mana. This sacrifice normally triggers the Nexus's replacement effect to exile itself and grant you an extra turn, but Toph's earthbend clause rescues it by returning it from exile to the battlefield when it dies or is exiled! Finally, Meticulous Excavation bounces the Nexus back to your hand for reuse, setting you up to recast it and repeat the whole process indefinitely for infinite turns.
