How it works

1. Cast Ugin's Nexus by paying 5.
2. At the beginning of your end step, Toph triggers, causing Ugin's Nexus to become an artifact land creature.
3. Activate Thermopod by sacrificing Ugin's Nexus, adding . Ugin's Nexus is exiled instead of being put into your graveyard, causing you to take an extra turn after this one.
4. Toph triggers, returning Ugin's Nexus from exile to the battlefield.
5. Activate Meticulous Excavation by paying 2, returning Ugin's Nexus from the battlefield to your hand.
6. Repeat each turn.

This intricate loop turns an otherwise temporary extra-turn effect into an engine for infinite turns. Toph, the First Metalbender does the heavy lifting by fundamentally rewriting the rules, turning Ugin's Nexus into a land and allowing it to be continuously bounced, sacrificed, and replayed. When you sacrifice Ugin's Nexus to Thermopod for mana, its replacement effect safely exiles it to grant you an extra turn while setting up Toph's return trigger. From there, Meticulous Excavation effortlessly retrieves the Nexus back to your hand so you can cast it again, locking down the game in formats like commander, legacy, modern, oathbreaker, and vintage.
