How it works

1. Activate Zaxara by tapping it, adding .
2. Cast Wurmcalling with buyback by paying 2.
3. Zaxara triggers, creating two 0/0 Hydra creature tokens.
4. The Hydras enter the battlefield and die as a state-based action due to having 0 toughness.
5. Faces of the Past trigger twice.
6. Resolve the first trigger, untapping all Hydras.
7. Activate Zaxara by tapping it, adding .
8. Resolve the second Faces of the Past trigger, untapping all Hydras.
9. Resolve Wurmcalling, creating a 0/0 Wurm creature token and returning Wurmcalling to your hand.
10. The Wurm enters the battlefield and dies as a state-based action due to having 0 toughness.
11. When the Wurm dies, Faces of the Past triggers, either tapping or untapping all Wurms.
12. Repeat.

This clever loop turns Zaxara, the Exemplary into a mana engine by tapping it for green mana to cast Wurmcalling with its buyback cost, which conveniently features an {X} in its mana cost to trigger Zaxara's ability. Thanks to Mondrak, Glory Dominus doubling every token creation, casting the spell produces massive swarms of creatures that instantly perish from having zero toughness, sending them to the graveyard. That death toll awakens Faces of the Past, whose shared-type triggers endlessly untap your creatures so you can retap Zaxara, the Exemplary for more mana to recast Wurmcalling all over again.
