Toph, Greatest Earthbender + Power Depot + Crystalline Crawler + Ashnod's Altar + Ozolith, the Shattered Spire
How it works
- Play Power Depot, which will enter with a +1/+1 counter on it due to its modular ability
- Cast Toph either from your hand or from the command zone by paying 2 plus commander tax if applicable.
- When Toph enters, it triggers, earthbending Power Depot and putting a number of +1/+1 counters on Power Depot equal to the mana spent to cast Toph, increased by Ozolith, the Shattered Spire.
- Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Power Depot.
- When Power Depot dies, its modular ability and Toph trigger.
- Resolve the modular trigger, putting the +1/+1 counters that were on Power Depot onto Crystalline Crawler, increased by Ozolith, the Shattered Spire.
- Resolve the Toph trigger, returning Power Depot from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped. Power Depot will enter with a +1/+1 counter on it due to its modular ability
- Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Toph. Choose to return Toph from your graveyard to the command zone.
- Activate Crystalline Crawler by removing a +1/+1 counter from it, adding R/G.
- Repeat step 9 until you have enough mana to cast Toph.
- Repeat from step 2.
This intricate engine relies on the synergy between Toph, Greatest Earthbender and Power Depot to continuously sacrifice and recur your lands while generating an overwhelming surplus of resources. When Toph enters the battlefield, she earthbends Power Depot—an artifact land whose modular 1 ability and ongoing counter accumulation are supercharged by Ozolith, the Shattered Spire to grow massive quickly. You then sacrifice Power Depot to Ashnod's Altar for colorless mana, triggering Toph's ability to pull the land right back out of the graveyard onto the battlefield. Meanwhile, Crystalline Crawler acts as both a mana filter and a counter sink, absorbing the soaring counter counts and turning them into the colored mana needed to recast Toph over and over again.
