How it works

1. Activate Viscera Seer by sacrificing Lesser Masticore.
2. When Lesser Masticore dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Hardened Academic triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Lesser Masticore.
4. Resolve the Viscera Seer ability.
5. Repeat.

This elegant loop relies on the interaction between Lesser Masticore's persist ability and Viscera Seer's sacrifice outlet to continuously cycle the rat into the graveyard and back. Every time Lesser Masticore leaves the graveyard, Hardened Academic's triggered ability steps in to place a +1/+1 counter on it, which immediately and neatly cancels out the -1/+1 counter from persist due to state-based actions. This counter-neutralization resets Lesser Masticore so it can be sacrificed to Viscera Seer all over again, generating an endless stream of scries alongside every death, entrance, and exit trigger you could ever need.
