How it works

1. Activate Umbral Collar Zealot by sacrificing Lesser Masticore.
2. When Lesser Masticore dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Lesser Masticore enters the battlefield, Captain Storm triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Lesser Masticore.
4. Resolve the Umbral Collar Zealot ability.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop centers around Umbral Collar Zealot’s ability to repeatedly sacrifice Lesser Masticore, generating an endless stream of death, sacrifice, and leave-the-battlefield triggers along with infinite surveil. Because Lesser Masticore has persist, it naturally returns to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter, but Leyline of Transformation plays a crucial role by turning it—and every other creature—into a Pirate, allowing Captain Storm, Cosmium Raider to step in and place a +1/+1 counter upon its re-entry to instantly cancel out that -1/-1 counter. This automated neutralization ensures the Masticore can be sacrificed over and over again without ever staying dead, fueling your engine indefinitely.
