How it works

1. Activate either of the creatures by tapping it, targeting the other creature.
2. If the tapped creature was a Merfolk, Deeproot Pilgrimage triggers, creating a 1/1 Merfolk creature token.
3. Resolve the ability from step 1, untapping the targeted creature.
4. Repeat.

This clever loop thrives on mutual untapping: by using Ioreth of the Healing House and Forensic Researcher to repeatedly untap one another, you generate an endless engine of activations. Because your untap engines are Merfolk, Deeproot Pilgrimage watches them tap to feed the loop and dutifully rewards you by minting an army of 1/1 hexproof tokens. You are left with an infinite supply of creature enter-the-battlefield triggers and a massive squad of Merfolk to overwhelm the board.
