How it works

1. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Ashcloud Phoenix.
2. When Ashcloud Phoenix dies, it triggers, as well as its undying ability if it does not have a +1/+1 counter on it.
3. Resolve the first trigger, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield face-down.
4. Resolve the second trigger, doing nothing.
5. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Ashcloud Phoenix.
6. When Ashcloud Phoenix dies, it triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
7. Resolve the Shilgengar abilities from steps 1 and 5, creating two Blood tokens.
8. Repeat.

This clever loop relies on Mikaeus, the Unhallowed granting undying to Ashcloud Phoenix, turning every trip to the graveyard into a resurrection opportunity rather than a permanent loss. By utilizing Shilgengar, Sire of Famine as our sacrifice outlet, we feed the Phoenix to its maw to continuously generate Blood tokens and trigger the Phoenix's own death abilities. Because the Phoenix returns to the battlefield alternating between its face-down state and its undying state with a +1/+1 counter, Shilgengar can repeatedly feast upon it to churn out an endless supply of artifacts and triggers.
