How it works

1. Activate Tortured Existence by paying and discarding a creature card, returning any other creature card from your graveyard to your hand.
2. Insidious Roots triggers, creating a 0/1 Plant creature token, then putting a +1/+1 counter on each Plant you control.
3. Activate the Plant by tapping it, adding .
4. Repeat.

This clever loop turns the graveyard into a self-sustaining engine by cycling creature cards back and forth with Tortured Existence for a mere single black mana. As those cards constantly filter in and out of your graveyard, Insidious Roots notices them leaving and rapidly floods your board with 0/1 Plant tokens, while also permanently pumping their power with +1/+1 counters. Once those Plants grow to power 4 or greater, Temur Ascendancy springs into action to reward each new entry with card draw, all while the Plants' own tap ability helps fund the mana needed to keep Tortured Existence running indefinitely.
