How it works

  1. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Pyreheart Wolf
  2. When Pyreheart Wolf dies, its undying ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
  3. Resolve the Shilgengar ability.
  4. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Pyreheart Wolf
  5. When Pyreheart Wolf dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
  6. Pyreheart Wolf enters and dies as a state-based action due to having 0 toughness. Its undying ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
  7. Resolve the Shilgengar ability from step 4.
  8. Repeat from step 4.

This ingenious loop relies on Shilgengar, Sire of Famine to sacrifice Pyreheart Wolf over and over, feeding an engine that generates infinite Blood tokens and death triggers. The secret to sustaining this sacrifice cycle lies in the alternating faces of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight: while its Isilu back face grants the Wolf persist, the +1/+1 counter from Pyreheart Wolf's own undying ability and the -1/-1 counter will continuously cancel each other out as state-based actions upon its return. This ensures the Wolf can die indefinitely to fuel Shilgengar's hunger, letting you amass an endless horde of artifacts and trigger effects.
