How it works

1. Cast Fake Your Own Death by paying 1, targeting any creature.
2. Holding priority, cast Dualcaster Mage by paying 1.
3. When Dualcaster Mage enters the battlefield, it triggers, copying Fake Your Own Death, targeting Dualcaster Mage.
4. Resolve the copy of Fake Your Own Death.
5. Holding priority, activate Altar of Dementia by sacrificing Dualcaster Mage.
6. When Dualcaster Mage dies, it triggers, returning itself from your graveyard to the battlefield and creating a Treasure token.
7. Repeat from step 3.
8. Resolve all Altar of Dementia abilities, causing any number of players to mill that many cards.

This loop transforms a simple recursion spell into a devastating self-sustaining engine by cleverly manipulating the stack. You begin by casting Fake Your Own Death on any creature, then drop Dualcaster Mage into the mix so its triggered ability targets the instant on the stack, copying it to shield the Mage itself. With that protection secured, you sacrifice Dualcaster Mage to Altar of Dementia; its death immediately triggers its return via the spell's effect while leaving behind a precious Treasure token and milling your opponents. Because the Mage enters the battlefield anew, it triggers yet again to copy the original spell, allowing you to repeat the entire sequence to mill out any number of players and accumulate infinite treasures and mana along the way.
