How it works

1. Cast Return to Action by paying its mana cost.
2. Holding priority, cast Dualcaster Mage by paying its mana cost.
3. When Dualcaster Mage enters, it triggers, copying Return to Action, with the copy targeting Dualcaster Mage.
4. Resolve the copy of Return to Action.
5. Holding priority, activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Dualcaster Mage.
6. When Dualcaster Mage dies, it triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield.
7. Repeat from step 3.

This clever loop turns a simple combat trick into an infinite engine by leveraging Dualcaster Mage's clever ability to copy spells upon entering the battlefield. By targeting your own Return to Action, Dualcaster Mage sets up its own resurrection, ensuring that whenever you sacrifice it to Ashnod's Altar for a pair of colorless mana, its death trigger immediately brings it back tapped and ready to do it again. Because Ashnod's Altar converts each sacrifice into more than enough mana to keep recasting the wizard with leftover profit, you can repeat this cascade indefinitely to generate infinite colorless mana alongside an endless stream of enters-the-battlefield, leaves-the-battlefield, and death triggers.
