How it works

  1. Cast Persist by paying its mana cost, targeting any applicable target.
  2. Holding priority, cast Dualcaster Mage by paying its mana cost.
  3. When Dualcaster Mage enters, it triggers, targeting Persist.
  4. Holding priority, activate Bartolomé del Presidio by sacrificing Dualcaster Mage.
  5. Resolve the Dualcaster Mage trigger, copying Persist, with the copy targeting Dualcaster Mage
  6. Resolve the Persist copy, returning Dualcaster Mage from your graveyard to the battlefield.
  7. Repeat from step 3.

This ingenious loop relies on a clever timing window to recur Dualcaster Mage indefinitely, fueling an infinite storm of sacrifices and triggers. By casting Persist and then holding priority to drop Dualcaster Mage, you can use the Mage's enter-the-battlefield trigger to copy the very same Persist spell currently sitting on the stack. Before that copy resolves, you sacrifice Dualcaster Mage to Bartolomé del Presidio, sending the Mage to the graveyard just in time for the copied Persist to bring it right back—complete with a neutralizing -1/-1 counter that gets immediately reset because a fresh Dualcaster Mage enters anew. Bartolomé del Presidio not only acts as the necessary sacrifice outlet to keep the loop rolling, but also grows infinitely large with +1/+1 counters from every iteration.
