How it works

  1. Cast Ascend from Avernus by paying 3W manaW manaW mana
  2. Holding priority, cast Dualcaster Mage by paying its mana cost.
  3. When Dualcaster Mage enters, it triggers, targeting Ascend from Avernus.
  4. Holding priority, activate Phantom Train by sacrificing Dualcaster Mage.
  5. Resolve the Dualcaster Mage trigger, copying Ascend from Avernus
  6. Resolve the Ascend from Avernus copy, returning Dualcaster Mage from your graveyard to the battlefield.
  7. Repeat from step 3.

This loop is a masterclass in recycling your graveyard, turning a single heavy-mana spell into an endless engine. It all begins when you cast Ascend from Avernus to lay the groundwork, followed closely by Dualcaster Mage, whose flash lets it slip right onto the stack. When Dualcaster Mage enters the battlefield, its triggered ability targets the original spell, but before that copy can resolve, you use Phantom Train to sacrifice the Mage as an artifact or creature, tucking it safely into your graveyard. The copied Ascend from Avernus resolves and plucks Dualcaster Mage right back out of the graveyard, letting it re-enter the battlefield and trigger all over again to copy the spell anew. Because Phantom Train is waiting on the board to continuously consume your creatures for parts, you can repeat this cycle endlessly. This setup effortlessly generates infinite sacrifices, deaths, and enters-the-battlefield triggers, all while pumping up Phantom Train with a limitless supply of +1/+1 counters.
