How it works
Cast Presumed Dead by paying its mana cost.
Holding priority, cast Dualcaster Mage by paying its mana cost.
When Dualcaster Mage enters, it triggers, copying Presumed Dead, with the copy targeting Dualcaster Mage.
Resolve the copy of Presumed Dead.
Holding priority, activate Phantom Train by sacrificing Dualcaster Mage.
When Dualcaster Mage dies, it triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield.
Repeat from step 3.
Resolve all Phantom Train abilities from step 5.
This clever loop starts by casting Presumed Dead to grant a target creature the ability to return upon death, setting the stage for infinite recursion. When you flash in Dualcaster Mage, its entry trigger copies that very spell to target itself, ensuring that whenever it bites the dust, it immediately comes right back. The real engine of this sacrifice-and-return cycle is Phantom Train, which conveniently lets you feed Dualcaster Mage to its activation cost over and over again. Each time the Mage dies and returns, it creates a fresh trigger to copy Presumed Dead anew, leaving you with an endless parade of creature sacrifices and enters-the-battlefield effects while pumping the Train full of infinite +1/+1 counters.
