How it works

  1. Play a land card from your hand.
  2. Kodama, Trench Behemoth and Retreat to Emeria trigger.
  3. If the land played was a basic land, you may activate it by tapping it, adding at least 1.
  4. Resolve the Kodama trigger, choosing to put nothing onto the battlefield from your hand.
  5. Resolve the Trench Behemoth trigger, targeting any creature an opponent controls.
  6. Resolve the Retreat to Emeria trigger, creating a 1/1 Kor Ally creature token.
  7. The Kor Ally enters the battlefield, triggering Kodama.
  8. Holding priority, activate Trench Behemoth by returning a land from the battlefield to your hand, untapping Trench Behemoth.
  9. Resolve the Kodama trigger, putting a land onto the battlefield from your hand.
  10. Trench Behemoth and Retreat to Emeria trigger.
  11. Repeat from step 5.

This clever loop turns a simple land drop into an engine of endless value by bouncing and replaying our lands. As we play land cards and generate mana, Retreat to Emeria’s landfall ability rewards us by flooding the board with 1/1 Kor Ally tokens. Each new token entering the battlefield triggers Kodama of the East Tree, allowing us to cheat another permanent into play if its mana value is low enough—or, crucially, to use Kodama's trigger to neatly slot in lands brought back to hand by Trench Behemoth. Meanwhile, Trench Behemoth acts as the mechanical heart of the loop, using its active land-bouncing ability to untap itself and fuel the bounce-and-replay cycle that keeps our landfall triggers firing infinitely.
