How it works

1. If you have more than three cards in hand, activate Skirge Familiar by discarding a card.
2. Repeat step 1 until you have three or fewer cards in hand.
3. At the beginning of your end step, Doctor Octopus triggers, causing you to draw at least five cards.
4. Lyla triggers for each card drawn, putting that many +1/+1 counters on Sage of Hours.
5. Activate Sage of Hours by removing all +1/+1 counters from it, causing you to take an extra turn after this one.
6. Repeat each turn.

This intricate loop is masterminded by Doctor Octopus, Master Planner, whose end step ability fills your hand back up to eight cards if you've fallen below that threshold. As those cards are drawn, Lyla, Holographic Assistant kicks into gear to stack +1/+1 counters onto Sage of Hours, perfectly fueling the Sage's ability to cash in those counters for a chain of extra turns. Meanwhile, Skirge Familiar acts as the essential mana engine in your hand, letting you discard excess cards into black mana to manage your hand size and keep the whole mechanism moving smoothly from turn to turn.
