How it works

1. Activate Tawnos's second ability by paying 1, tapping it and sacrificing two artifact tokens, exiling Zealous Conscripts from your graveyard and creating a token copy of it that is an artifact in addition to its other types.
2. When the Zealous Conscripts token enters, it triggers, untapping Tawnos.
3. Activate Tawnos's first ability by paying 2 and tapping it, creating a copy of the Zealous Conscripts token and causing you to mill two cards.
4. When the Zealous Conscripts token enters, it triggers, untapping Tawnos.
5. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing a Zealous Conscripts token, adding CC.
6. Repeat from step 3.

This mesmerizing loop relies on Tawnos, Solemn Survivor acting as our grand foundry, utilizing its heavy-duty activation to pluck Zealous Conscripts right out of the graveyard as an artifact copy. Once that initial copy hits the battlefield, its enter-the-battlefield trigger untaps Tawnos, allowing us to pivot into churning out more copies with Tawnos's first ability for a mere two mana. As these temporary copies flood the board, Ashnod's Altar eagerly converts them into colorless mana to sustain the process indefinitely while fueling your death and sacrifice triggers.
