How it works

1. Cast Hangarback Walker by paying 1, causing it to enter the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
2. Activate Together Forever by paying 1, targeting Hangarback Walker.
3. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Hangarback Walker, adding CC.
4. When Hangarback Walker dies, Together Forever triggers, returning Hangarback Walker from your graveyard to your hand.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop centers around Hangarback Walker, which we recast repeatedly thanks to Helm of Awakening reducing its casting cost to a mere {1}. By paying {1} to activate Together Forever, we ensure that sacrificing Hangarback Walker to Ashnod's Altar doesn't send it to the graveyard for good, but instead returns it safely to our hand. Ashnod's Altar conveniently funds both the recast and Together Forever's protection ability using the mana generated from the sacrifice, while Hangarback Walker's own death trigger rewards us with an army of Thopter tokens along the way.
