How it works

1. On the end step prior to your turn, cast Storvald either from your hand or from the command zone by paying 4 and commander tax, if applicable.
2. When Storvald enters the battlefield, it triggers, causing Tree or Redemption's power and toughness to become 1 until end of turn.
3. Activate Tree of Redemption by tapping it, causing your life total to become 1.
4. At the beginning of your upkeep, Near-Death Experience triggers, causing you to win the game.

This clever setup relies on Tidal Barracuda to let you flash in Storvald, Frost Giant Jarl right on the end step before your turn, safely bypassing the normal timing restrictions. When Storvald enters the battlefield, its trigger shrinks Tree of Redemption down to a base power and toughness of 1/1, allowing you to immediately tap the Tree to exchange your life total for that measly 1 toughness. With your life total now sitting at precisely 1, Near-Death Experience easily glides past its check at the beginning of your upkeep to immediately claim victory.
