How it works

1. Activate Xavier Sal by tapping it and removing a counter from a permanent you control, creating a copy of a creature token you control.
2. When the creature token enters the battlefield, Intruder Alarm and Bloodline Pretender trigger.
3. Resolve the Intruder Alarm trigger, untapping all creatures.
4. Resolve the Bloodline Pretender trigger, putting a counter on it.
5. Repeat.

This elegant loop begins with Xavier Sal, Infested Captain using its first tap ability to populate a copy of a creature token, which immediately triggers Intruder Alarm to untap all creatures—including Xavier Sal itself—so the process can begin anew. At the same time, Bloodline Pretender takes advantage of its changeling ability to trigger off every single newly entering token, steadily growing larger and providing a steady source of counters. Because Xavier Sal, Infested Captain only requires removing *any* counter from *another* permanent to fuel its populate ability, Bloodline Pretender's accumulated +1/+1 counters aren't just for show; they can also be spent directly to pay the cost of Xavier Sal's tap ability when you need to switch gears, keeping this infinite engine running smoothly.
