How it works

1. Activate Necrotic Ooze using Kwain's ability by tapping it, allowing each player to draw a card and gain 1 life.
2. Necrotic Ooze triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on itself.
3. Activate Necrotic Ooze using Barrenton Medic's second ability by putting a -1/-1 counter on it, untapping it.
4. Repeat.

This clever engine transforms Necrotic Ooze into an absolute powerhouse by granting it the activated abilities of both Kwain, Itinerant Meddler and Barrenton Medic while it sits quietly on the battlefield. You tap the Ooze to use Kwain's ability, which forces every player to draw a card and gain a life—a life gain event that immediately triggers Sunbond to place a +1/+1 counter on the Ooze. You can then use Barrenton Medic's ability to place a -1/-1 counter on Necrotic Ooze to untap it, and because Magic's state-based actions automatically cancel out matching +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters, the Ooze resets itself completely free of permanent penalty.
