How it works

1. Cast Not Dead After All by paying , targeting Eternal Witness.
2. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Eternal Witness, adding .
3. When Eternal Witness dies, it and any Wicked Role tokens that may be attached to it trigger.
4. If applicable, resolve the Wicked Role trigger, causing each opponent to lose 1 life.
5. Resolve the Eternal Witness trigger, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped, and attaching a Wicked Role token to it.
6. When Eternal Witness enters the battlefield, it triggers, returning Not Dead After All to your hand from your graveyard.
7. Repeat.

This clever loop turns the unassuming Eternal Witness into a self-sustaining engine by utilizing Not Dead After All to catch her every time she hits the graveyard. When you sacrifice her to Phyrexian Altar, you generate the black mana needed to recast the spell while simultaneously triggering her own recursive enters-the-battlefield ability to pull Not Dead After All right back to your hand. Meanwhile, the Wicked Role token generated upon her return adds a relentless drain of life to your opponents with every single iteration.
