How it works

1. Activate Goblin Bombardment by sacrificing Twilight Shepherd.
2. When Twilight Shepherd dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Thran Vigil triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Twilight Shepherd.
4. Resolve the Goblin Bombardment ability.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop transforms Twilight Shepherd into a self-sustaining engine of destruction by playing its persist trigger against Thran Vigil's watchful eye. When you sacrifice the Shepherd to Goblin Bombardment, it hits the graveyard and immediately triggers Thran Vigil to cancel out its impending -1/-1 counter with a +1/+1 counter upon return. Because the Shepherd re-enters the battlefield, its enter-the-battlefield ability even scoops up any other casualties left behind in your graveyard that turn.
