How it works

1. At the beginning of your combat phase, Helm of the Host triggers, creating a nonlegendary token copy of Omarthis with haste.
2. Put a +1/+1 counter on the Omarthis token or another colorless creature you control.
3. The nontoken Omarthis triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on itself.
4. The Omarthis token triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on itself.
5. Repeat from step 3.

This clever colorless loop takes advantage of the duplicate nature of Helm of the Host by equipping it to Omarthis, Ghostfire Initiate, which immediately creates a nonlegendary copy at the start of combat with haste. Once you place an initial +1/+1 counter on a colorless creature, Omarthis and its token copy trigger each other indefinitely through Omarthis's static-like counter-sharing ability. Meanwhile, Instruments of War provides a handy passive anthem for your chosen creature type, rounding out a powerful engine legal in commander, legacy, oathbreaker, and vintage.
