How it works

1. Cast Mourning by paying 2 life if able, or otherwise.
2. Each creature you control's extort ability triggers.
3. Resolve the first extort trigger, causing you to pay 2 life if able, or W/B otherwise, causing each opponent to lose 1 life and you to gain that much life.
4. Repeat step 3 for each remaining extort trigger.
5. Resolve Mourning, attaching it to a creature you control.
6. Activate Mourning by paying 2 life, returning it from the battlefield to your hand.
7. Repeat until an opponent loses the game due to having 0 or less life.

This ingenious loop transforms a seemingly modest Aura into a lethal engine by leveraging cost reduction and life payment. Cloud Key sets its sights on enchantments, allowing you to cast Mourning for free when combined with K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth's ability to substitute black mana costs with life payments. Meanwhile, Pontiff of Blight blankets your board in multiple instances of extort, turning every single casting of Mourning into a cascade of life-draining triggers. Because Mourning can simply be bounced back to your hand using its own activated ability, you can continuously recast it, draining your opponents' life totals down to zero while comfortably padding your own.
