How it works

  1. Cast Mourning by paying 2 life if able, or B mana otherwise.
  2. Each creature you control's extort ability triggers.
  3. Resolve the first extort trigger, causing you to pay 2 life if able, or W/B otherwise, causing each opponent to lose 1 life and you to gain that much life.
  4. Repeat step 3 for each remaining extort trigger.
  5. Resolve Mourning, attaching it to a creature you control.
  6. Activate Mourning by paying 2 life, returning it from the battlefield to your hand.
  7. Repeat until an opponent loses the game due to having 0 or less life.

This clever loop turns the self-contained recycling of Mourning into a lethal drain engine by leveraging K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth to pay life instead of mana for both black spells and the Aura's bounce activation. While Stone Calendar reduces the cast cost and K'rrik pumps himself with every black spell cast, the real payoff comes from Pontiff of Blight granting multiple instances of extort to your board. Because every single cast and activation triggers those extort abilities—which are themselves paid for with life via K'rrik's replacement effect and offset by the ensuing lifegain—you can continuously recast and bounce Mourning to drain the entire table dry without ever running out of resources.
