How it works

1. Cast Gideon's Sacrifice by paying , targeting Smaug.
2. Cast Volcano Hellion by paying 2.
3. When Volcano Hellion enters, it triggers, dealing an arbitrarily large amount of damage to Smaug
4. Smaug triggers, creating an amount of Treasure tokens equal to the damage it was dealt.

This explosive combination turns Volcano Hellion's self-inflicted damage into an absolute fortune by redirecting it entirely through Gideon's Sacrifice. When Volcano Hellion enters the battlefield, its triggered ability targets itself for an arbitrarily large amount of damage, which Gideon's Sacrifice reroutes away from you and straight to Smaug the Impenetrable. Thanks to Smaug the Impenetrable's indestructible keyword, it easily survives the onslaught while its triggered ability translates that massive wave of unpreventable damage directly into a mountain of Treasure tokens.
